10 November 1775 Captain Samuel Nicholas in Philadelphia commissioned two battalions of naval infantry and called them the Continental Marines. From this beginning the United States Marine Corps has grown to be one of the most respected and revered military forces in the world and throughout history.

Today is the day we honor The Few, The Proud, The Marines. There are no former Marines. There are simply Marines. Once a Marine always a Marine is the mindset of this most unique fighting and peace keeping force. They are often called to complete the missions that have been declared impossible but since 1775 they have completed those missions with enduring fortitude and unfailing valor.
