A Eunice man earned several traffic violations from two law enforcement agencies after leading officers on a 40-mile high-speed chase along the U.S. 190 corridor.

According to our news partner, KATC, 52-year-old Billy Joe Westbrook refused to pull over a stolen Kia Sorrento Wednesday night.

Westbrook was reportedly driving at speeds over 100 mph as he was driving east on U.S. 190 from Port Barre into Pointe Coupee Parish.

The suspect was finally apprehended when he deliberately struck a Port Barre police cruiser near the Morganza Spillway Bridge.

Westbrook was brought to a Baton Rouge hospital for minor injuries before being booked into the Point Coupee Parish Jail.

Westbrook faces the following charges from Louisiana State Police Troop A:

  • DUI
  • driving with a suspended license
  • no seat belt
  • improper lane usage
  • open container
  • possession of stolen property

Westbrook faces the following charges from the Port Barre Police Department:

  • driving up a one-way
  • reckless operation
  • aggravated flight
  • aggravated assault of a police officer

Westbrook may face more charges pending the investigation.
