Fake Currency In Circulation In Louisiana

Beware! There’s fake currency that is in circulation in at least one parish in Louisiana.

If you live in Ascension Parish, know someone there, or oft travel through that area, let it be known that there is fake currency circulating throughout the parish.

WBRZ reports that people have been spotted on surveillance cameras using counterfeit 10 and 20 dollar bills. The people from the video have been interviewed by investigators.

The police are working to keep the scam from spreading.

Just this month, there have six reported cases of fake bills being used at several businesses. Store managers have been told to pay careful attention to bills they receive from customers. Investigators also advise cashiers to check for watermark, security strip, and use an indicator marker.

Investigators in neighboring East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes have reported that they have not seen an increase in counterfeit bills.
