The Food and Drug Administration has placed a ban on four R.J. Reynolds brands of cigarettes. The ban includes the ever popular Camel Crush Bold brand of cigarettes.

This ban comes from these brands not meeting the FDA's safety review requirements. The FDA rules require that all companies show that new cigarette brands are not any more harmful than other types already on the market. However, the FDA said that R.J. Reynolds “failed to show” that these cigarettes were “not substantially” different from older products.

The banned brands are as follows:

  • Camel Crush Bold
  • Pall Mall Deep Set Recessed Filter
  • Pall Mall Deep Set Recessed Filter Menthol
  • Vantage Tech 13

The FDA has ordered all retailers of these cigarettes to stop selling these brands within 30 days, the current stock must be disposed or sold before then. The agency issued this statement:

Failure to obey federal tobacco product laws may result in the FDA initiating further action without notice, including, but not limited to, civil money penalties, no-tobacco-sale orders, criminal prosecution, seizure, and/or injunction.

R.J. Reynolds has said they they are not happy and strongly disagree with this decision.
