While Tanya Mouton and her family weren't home, their house on 1817 N. St. Antoine Street caught fire, suffering heavy fire and smoke damage, with all the contents of the home destroyed.

Lafayette Fire Department PIO Alton Trahan says the fire started in the bedroom. Trahan says when firefighters responded to the fire around 7:50 p.m. Friday night, flames were coming from a window and the roof of the home. He says it took firefighters fifteen minutes before getting it under control.

Investigators believe it most probably was caused by an electrical short in an extension cord. The fire was ruled an accident.
