Five elite members of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team were named to the 2015 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana roster that was released on Saturday.

UL Lafayette's Sports Information Director Matt Sullivan reported senior wide receiver Jamal Robinson, a first-team selection, was joined by second-team selections Elijah McGuire, Dominique Tovell and Steven Coutts with junior Savion Brown named honorable mention.

A First-Team All-Sun Belt selection, Robinson bounced back from a season-ending injury in 2014 to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns in receptions (54), yards (842) and touchdowns (5). He caught 42 passes for 646 yards with five touchdowns in Sun Belt Conference games, including catching 10 or passes in back-to-back games against South Alabama and New Mexico State.

Robinson caught a career-high 12 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown against New Mexico State while posting 10 catches for a career-high 188 yards with a TD at South Alabama. He joined Brandon Stokley and Fred Stamps as the only players in Ragin’ Cajuns history to record 2,500 career yards receiving.

McGuire finished as the Ragin’ Cajuns leading rusher with 1,058 yards and 13 touchdowns while becoming the second running back in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. One of two active NCAA players with 3,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving, McGuire recorded three 100-yard rushing games on the season, including a season-best 170 yards against Texas State along with 162 yards and five TDs against Northwestern State.

Tovell, a First-Team All-Sun Belt selection, led the Ragin’ Cajuns and ranked among the Sun Belt Conference leaders in tackles (79), sacks (7.0), tackles for loss (14.5) and fumbles forced (2). He posted a pair of games with 10 or more tackles, including a career-high 13 stops against New Mexico State. Tovell posted 12 tackles (10 solo) with a pair of sacks and a fumble recovery in a homecoming win against ULM and posted seven tackles with two sacks and school-record tying five tackles for loss in season opener at Kentucky.

Coutts, the second in a line of Australian punters for the Ragin’ Cajuns, finished among the top freshman punters in the FBS, averaging 42.4 yards per attempt. The Brisbane, Australia native averaged 51.2 yards in six attempts, including a season-long 64 boot at Arkansas State. He placed four punts inside the 20-yard line in games at Louisiana Tech and Appalachian State and had three punts of over 50 yards against Akron.

Brown, a Second-Team All-Sun Belt pick, posted 43 tackles and ranked among the SBC leaders in interceptions (3) and passes defended (9). The Shreveport native had an 85-yard TD return (the fifth-longest return in school history) at South Alabama and added interceptions in games at Arkansas State and Georgia State. Brown broke up a pair of passes in a come-from-behind win over ULM and recorded a season-high seven tackles at South Alabama.

LSU’s record-setting sophomore running back Leonard Fournette was named the state’s top offensive player, while Wallace Scott of McNeese State was chosen the defensive player of the year. Louisiana Tech quarterback Jeff Driskel, who led the Bulldogs to the New Orleans Bowl, was the Newcomer of the Year for first-year non-freshman Louisiana players, while LSU’s Arden Key was voted the state’s top freshman player.

Matt Viator, who recently became the head coach at ULM, was honored as the state’s top coach for his efforts this past season with the playoff bound Cowboys.

The team was selected by a panel of LSWA members based on nominations supplied by the football media relations directors of the various schools in the state.
