Flood Watch Posted For South Louisiana Through Monday

2016 just won't let go with the rain, will it? After a year that saw South Louisiana inundated with record rainfall we're getting a parting shot on the last day of the year. The bad news, the rain will stay with us through the New Year's holiday weekend into Monday.

The National Weather Service has posted a Flash Flood Watch for most of Acadiana. This flood watch is in response to the potential heavy rainfall expected across the area over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Forecasters are suggesting that 3 to 5 inches of rainfall will be common place across the watch area. That area extends from Jefferson Davis Parish all the way across the Atchafalaya Basin. Local rainfall amounts could exceed 6 inches in some of the heavier downpours.

The current radar scan for South Louisiana shows exactly where the heavier showers and thunderstorms are located at this time. The Storm Prediction Center does not have any specific areas outlined for a severe weather outbreak at this time.

Gusty winds will make the heavier downpours even more difficult to drive in over the next several days. Interstate travelers can expect blowing rain and residual mist from roadway traffic to be a factor in visibility, especially during the heaviest rainstorms.
