Kiera Wilmot, a 16-year-old student in Bartow, Florida has been expelled from Bartow High School and faces possible felony charges for a science experiment gone wrong.

So how dangerous and horrible WAS this experiment? Kiera mixed household chemicals in a tiny 8-ounce water bottle, causing the top to pop off, followed by billowing smoke in a small explosion. No one was hurt.

Kiera Wilmot's principal said, "She made a bad choice. Honestly, I don't think she meant to ever hurt anyone. She wanted to see what would happen when the chemicals mixed and was shocked by what it did. Her mother is shocked too."

She has been kicked out of school, and charged with a couple of felonies including  possession/discharge of a weapon on school property and discharging a destructive device.

She now has to finish school in a special expulsion program.

Felonies? Expulsion? I understand zero tolerance policies, but this is a little too much, don't you think?
