The Carencro Fire Department announced on Sunday the passing of former longtime Fire Chief Carroll Guilbeau. He was 95.

In a Facebook post, the department said he died on Saturday.

"We regret to announce Fire Chief Carroll Guilbeau has answered his final alarm. His family is in our prayers and he will forever be in our hearts. Arrangements are pending,” the post stated.

Guilbeau served as Fire Chief in Carencro for 43 years and was a founding member of the Lafayette Parish Fire Protection Association.

The Fire Department says that Guilbeau has been retired for some time, but he still received fire calls at his home.

Last year, the city of Carencro dedicated and renamed the Central Fire Station in his honor.

Last we checked, funeral arrangements were still pending.
