Former First Lady Of Lafayette Passes Away

There will be a mass of Christian Burial at St. John's Cathedral this Wednesday for Ruth Butcher Bowen, the former first lady of Lafayette.  Ruth Bowen was married to former Mayor Kenny Bowen.

Bowen's mass will be held at 10:10 a.m. this Wednesday.

Bowen died Sunday surrounded by her family.  She was 86-years-old.

A Rosary is scheduled for Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Martin and Castille's downtown location.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00, and then again on Wednesday starting at 8:00 in the morning until the time of her service at 10:00.

As the former wife to Mayor Bowen during his time in office, it is said that she loved to host foreign dignitaries in their home to show them about the cajun culture and what true Southern charm is all about.
