According to the Youngsville Fire Chief's post on Facebook, a former Youngsville Police Officer has died.

Blair Rivette, Youngsville's Fire Chief, posted a tribute to Immanuel Washington on his personal Facebook page.

The post says that Washington had left the Youngsville Police Department to pursue a career with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and, while at the academy, collapsed during a run and never regained consciousness.

Washington was also a well-respected member of the UL Men's Basketball team, according to Jay Walker of ESPN AM1420 Radio. "The kid was very well-liked by coaches and the team alike and was a very strong defensive player. He didn't have numbers that stood out, but he was a solid player and they started him for at least half of the games during the '01-'02 and '02-'03 seasons."

The Youngsville Police Department also posted a tribute to Washington on their Facebook page:

Washington leaves behind a wife and 2 children.

RIP Officer Washington, and thank you for your service.
