Four more sheriff's deputies from St. Landry Parish have graduated from the Police Officers Standard Training Corrections Academy.

During the six weeks of training, deputies are put through strenuous classes that includes training in the following:

  • Firearms qualifications
  • Defensive tactics
  • Academic courses dealing with all aspects of inmate interaction

The final step to completing the course is passing the State of Louisiana Police Officers Standard Training test.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Sergeant Brandilyn David earned this year's distinction as Top Academic cadet.

Guidroz says,

"I would like to commend these deputies for their hard work and dedication while in the academy. Since being elected as Sheriff in 2006, my pledge has been to provide our citizens with deputies committed to professionalism and a higher standard. Through continuous training on all levels, I have held true to that commitment. We will continue to place certified deputies on the streets and in the parish jail in order to better serve the public.
