Brenda Buttner, a senior business correspondent and host of Fox's "Bulls & Bears", has died of cancer. She was only 55.

Her Fox News colleague Neil Cavuto made the announcement last night on his program in an emotional tribute.

"Brenda was among the very first to put a kind female face to this once-staid ole male batch of the business," Cavuto said. "She took stock of life more than stock in life."

Another Fox News co-worker, Eric Bolling, tweeted his condolences on Monday afternoon.

"Our colleague and my friend Brenda Buttner passed today. She fought cancer heroically. RIP Brenda. We will miss you."

Before joining Fox in 2000, Buttner hosted CNBC's "The Money Club" and served as a Washington correspondent for the same network in the early '90s.

A graduate of Harvard, Buttner began her TV career at NBC affiliate KCRL in Reno, Nevada.

She is survived by her two daughters.
