Showers and thundershowers are pushing rapidly eastward across South Louisiana this morning. This is in connection with an actual cold front that is forecast to move through the area later today. I say an actual cold front because after this system moves through the area it will actually be cold. Most of the time cold fronts that move across our area only lower the humidity of bring slightly cooler temperatures. This cold front means business.

It won't be pipe busting cold behind the front but it will be cold enough that the National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for those of you who live along and north of Interstate 10. A freeze watch means that forecasters believe temperatures across the watch area could be close to or below freezing for at least two to three hours.

The actual air temperatures might not be your biggest concern over the next 12 to 24 hours. This system is bringing in cold Canadian air on the strength of very strong northerly breezes. The winds could be blowing as strong as 20 to 30 mph over the next day or so. This will bring even colder temperatures into the area and reintroduce us to the wind chill. Temperatures to start the work week could be at or below the freezing mark.

Our suggestion if you're going to be shopping or watching your favorite college football team play, bring a jacket and somebody warm to be next to you. We can expect this chill to stay with us through at least Tuesday then temperatures will begin to moderate. By Thanksgiving Day you can expect a slight chance of showers and temperatures back into the middle 70's.
