A string of shootings in Iberia Parish on Wednesday have left one man dead and two people in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Iberia Parish Sheriff’s detectives say the string of shooting happened in the 900 block of Mississippi Street in New Iberia. Deputies were first called to the area around 5:30 PM. In that call, two men were admitted to separate hospitals, one with a gunshot wound to his shoulder and the other with gunshot wounds to his hip and shoulder.

Deputies responded to the same area for a second call around 9 PM, this time no victims were reported. Unfortunately, neither were any suspects.

Then, around 11 PM, deputies on patrol heard gunshots again and found a 37-year-old male victim laying in the intersection of Mississippi Street and Cletus Street. He was shot several times and eventually died at the hospital. His identified will be released once the family has been notified.

Investigators believe the shootings may be related to alleged gang activity in the area.
