Did you know that Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will be playing a free concert at Fort Polk on Saturday, June 9?

Yes. Gary Sinise, as in the actor who played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump.

When I found the information, I squealed like a little girl.

Frankly, I had no idea that this band existed, but I have been a Gary Sinise fan for a long time. Along with Forrest Gump, he's appeared in The Green Mile, Apollo 13, CSI: New York, just to name a select few!

He began an charitable organization called The Gary Sinise Organization whose mission is to:

serve our nation by
honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders,
their families, and those in need.

We do this by creating and supporting unique
programs designed to entertain, educate,
inspire, strengthen, and build communities.

He explains in the video above why he feels the need to give back to U.S. service members and their families, and how Lt. Dan has become more than just a character in a movie.

As for the band, there appear to be several vocalists who take turns on the cover songs the band sings. From rock to country, they are all having fun, and Gary is picking away on his bass.

Saturday's concert is free and open to the community, BUT you need to do the following if you aren't a member of the military or don't have a Department of Defense identification card:

Stop at the Visitor Control Center to get an access pass. Wait times could be long the day of the show, so you are encouraged to go to the Visitor Control Center during the week to register to get on to post the day of the concert.

The concert will be held at Headquarters Field on Fort Polk. It is scheduled to begin at 6:30. Gates open at 5:30.
