Less money for gas means more money for turkey and that's good thing if you ask me. The price of Thanksgiving travel by car as far as fuel prices are concerned is expected to be less then than it is now.  By Thanksgiving day drivers in Louisiana could be paying anywhere from a nickel to a dime less per gallon for regular gasoline.

The reason for the drop in price is a combination of two things. The fall season usually means less driving and that means a surplus of fuel on the  market. The gas producers are also switching to their less expensive fall blend of gasoline and that adds even more of savings to the consumer's bottom line.

According to a leading gas price site, motorist around the state are paying on average $2.80 per gallon for regular fuel. In the Lafayette area we found prices as low as $2.61 for a gallon of regular fuel. In fact there were 28 retailers that had gas priced below the state average.

How long will the low prices last? According to one expert at least through mid-December. The supply is good and the low cost fall blend will continue to add up to big savings for you and I. How significant are these lower fuel prices? Compared to last year at this same time motorist across the nation spent nearly $112 million dollars more on fuel.  That kind of money will certainly lead to a happier holiday season for most of  us.
