Two of the best trips I have ever taken in my life both came as a complete surprise. On one occasion my wife met me at the door with a packed bag and told me to get in the car we were going to the airport. We wound up in St. Louis for Cardinals Baseball, a tour of the Budweiser Brewery and a trip to the International Bowling Museum. Okay so I like bowling.

The second, I was a little tipsy and got on the wrong plane and wound up spending the weekend in Phoenix looking for charcoal, but that's a whole other story. The fact is the Mystery Vacation is becoming all the rage, you might want to try it.

Blindfolded, 1,500 miles from home, 70-year-old Paul White was being driven along a twisting mountain road to an unknown destination.

Of course today's travel restrictions might make a surprise trip involving an airport more difficult but there are still plenty of destinations that you can reach within a days drive. For some excellent ideas, please click the link below.
