Help St Jude, Help Yourself – Three Events That Can Help You Shape Up While You Save Lives
St Jude hospital is a favorite subject for us to talk about here at 97.3 The Dawg. The research hospital in Memphis TN is responsible for so many miracles. It has been the difference between life and death for so many kids and so many families that we have gotten to know on a very personal level. The hospital doesn’t ask patients or their families to pay, ever. It is medicine the way medicine was meant to be practiced but it does take money to make that happen.
One of the ways you can help St Jude and help yourself is to participate in one, two or all three walk/run fundraising events that are coming up over the next three months. This way you get some exercise and you know that your entry fee is going to support a very special place.
Saturday in Abbeville as part of the Louisiana Cattle Festival it’s the Stampede and Stomp 5k and 1 mile run/walk. The event starts shortly after 8am in front of the courthouse in Abbeville and I am please to say that I will see you there. I have been asked to be the master of ceremonies for the event and I look forward to calling your name as you cross the finish line. Registration is still open for the event and you are encouraged to pre-register by visiting this site.
In November 97.3 The Dawg is proud to be a sponsor of the St Jude Give Thanks Walk. This is a nationwide event that will take place in cities across the country on November 23rd.The Lafayette event begins at Parc San Souci. You can sign up at this site and start your fund raising too. Last year several teams participated in not only raising funds but having a great time walking a beautiful route through downtown Lafayette.
In December it is St Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend in Memphis TN. This is an annual event for me and many of us here at 97.3 The Dawg. Unfortunately the full marathon and the half marathon at this event have sold out. There is still an opportunity for you to register to be a part of the Memphis Grizzlies House 5k.My favorite part of the route is when you get to walk right by the hospital. You can literally feel the energy of miracles in the air. It is a very spiritual place.
The good news about running or walking the 5k in Memphis is you feel great and will have worked up an incredible appetite for some of the River City’s amazing barbeque.
All of these events have St Jude selected as the recipient of your generosity. You get the benefit of helping out a friend, a neighbor or maybe someone you will never know but you’re still helping. Thank you for doing something for you too. Exercise is always good and when you get to share the time with good friends why wouldn’t you want to join in the fun.
