Ok, yes you read that headline correctly. I did say the 'C' word. Yes, I know we probably need to get through Thanksgiving first, but here's the thing. Some folks have already started their Christmas shopping, and some have even FINISHED! Who would have thunk it? As much as we adore the Christmas season, the shopping part can be pain. We all know it. Personally, I have a list a mile long and I sometimes want to cry when I look at it and wonder how tackling it would be physically possible. However, after giving it some thought, I came up with some creative ideas for this year that just might help you out as well:

Parents: Personally, my parents never let on to what they want for Christmas, much less things they need in general. So I'm usually left with no idea. Thankfully, this year my father said he wanted a new bar-b-que pit. Check! Now what to do for mom...yes I had no idea. So after thinking about it, I compiled a list of her favorite things. Now I'm left with TONS of ideas for things I can make myself and I know she will love it no matter what. I'm sure many of you have faced this same issue, so maybe give this a try and see what kind of things you can come up with.

Children: No, I currently do not have children of my own, but my godchildren are right up there with the rest of them. The great thing about young children is that they are easily thrilled by the simplest things. I have saved things from my childhood that could serve as great gifts. Tell them that you will show them how to make homemade rice crispy treats or cookies. For the older ones, gift cards to their favorite stores seem to be the ticket. My grandmother gives what she calls shepherd gifts that are previously used or something simple like slippers or a pajama set. She also explains why she chose to do this which boils down to us remembering that there are others that don't have the luxury of fancy gifts during the Christmas season.

When it comes to friends and extended family, the same thing goes. What is their favorite body lotion? Do they have a favorite sports team and do they wear ball caps? A picture of your family or the two of you framed would be extra special! I have always said, 'It's the little things that matter most.' I remind myself each year that gifts don't have to be over the top or expensive for them to have important meaning. I am fresh out of college and we all know what that means. Money is a little tight. Your family and friends shouldn't expect a brand new Lexus in the driveway Christmas morning or that $500 Coach purse that everyone else has. Christmas is about cherishing the ones that mean the most to us and spending the time we were given with them. I hope this helped out just a bit! Now bring on the turkey and cornbread dressing!
