Heroin User Crashes Into Slidell Police SUV While Shooting Up

SLIDELL, La. (KPEL) -- Humankind continues to prove time and time again that is populated at times by complete idiots. Take this story out of Slidell.

According to WAFB in Baton Rouge, a suspect was arrested after he crashed into a police SUV--while shooting up heroin!

The television station reports the officer was monitoring traffic when the Lincoln LS veered off the road and headed straight for him. "The officer saw the man driving look up but was unable to react before he crashed into the Chevy Tahoe," the television station reported.

The driver, 32-year-old Ronald Caplina, wasn't even wearing his seat belt, which you think someone trying to pull off such a high-risk maneuver would at least take care to do.

When police asked him why he was so distracted--because obviously you have to be distracted to crash into a police SUV at 40 miles per hour--he couldn't give them a straight answer. A search of Caplina's car, though, turned up a fresh syringe, suspected heroin, dried blood on the needle, and fresh injection marks on his arm, a surefire recipe for police car destruction.

Caplina was cited with careless operation, driving with a suspended license, and not wearing a seat belt. He was booked into jail for possession of the heroin and drug paraphernalia.

The Slidell police lieutenant whose SUV Caplina crashed into suffered only minor injuries.
