The southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 90 were backed up for miles Tuesday morning because of a crash that involved a pedestrian death.

According to Cpl. Nicole Benoit with the Lafayette Police Department, the busy intersection of Hwy. 90 at Verot School Road was shut down at 7:30 a.m.

Police continued to investigate the accident, which reportedly claimed the life of a pedestrian, Benoit said.

Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes.
