If you take a page off the new video game release Grand Theft Auto 5 and throw in a scene from Gunsmoke you might have a better understanding of what Opelousas Police are investigating right now. It's a hit and  run accident. The twist, the hit and run was done with a horse and not a car.

It appears two young adults were racing their horses through the streets of Opelousas. The race carried the riders and horses through one of the intersections on Union Street. At that intersection one of the horses made violent and brutal contact with a minivan. Police said one of the horses hit the van square, smashing its head through a window and appeared to be seriously injured.

Officers attempted to track down the horses and riders by following a trail of blood. In addition to the hit and run charges the riders will also be facing charges of riding a horse within the city limits of Opelousas.
