A Houma man is currently facing serious jail time after he was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals. Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis says officers from his department were called to a home shared by Richey Kiffe and his former live in girl friend.

According to the police report the girlfriend claimed that she had left the residence following an argument to take  time to cool off. When she returned she noticed that one of four brand new chihuahua poodle mix puppies that were living in the house had been beheaded.

Chief Duplantis said the woman then began a search for the remaining dogs,

"The other three puppies were then located under a sofa inside the residence by the complainant.  She located the other three puppies with one of them having a missing head."

When questioned by police Kiffe denied any knowledge of the incident saying that he had been sleeping. He also admitted to being intoxicated. Authorities believe Kiffe played a major role in the death of the puppies and he has been arrested on four counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

In a story reported by the Louisiana Radio Network Duplantis said  of the charges, if Kiffe is convicted,

"He could get up to 10 years in jail per charge on this.  So he could get up to 40 years on this."
