I was attempting to sleep yesterday and our dog Cotton decided he would visit his water bowl in the bathroom to grab a drink from his bowl. Maybe it was the fact that I was tired and had a slight headache or maybe it was the fact that it was really noisy, regardless the commotion got my attention.

Cotton is a Maltese, he's a little bitty dog but when he drinks he makes the sound of plunger diving in and out of a toilet bowl. How come dogs make so much noise when they drink? The video above sheds some light on that question.

The dog's tongue actually bends backward to form a ladle. The tongue is then filled with water and pulled up into the animal's mouth. If you repeat that scenario about three dozen more times you will begin to realize just how and why dogs make so much noise when they drink.
