Eastbound travelers on Interstate 10 finally got some good news from Louisiana State Police about 2 am this morning. Both lanes of travel of that interstate highway were open for travel.

Both lanes had been closed for much Wednesday night into early Thursday because of a fatal accident involving two 18 wheelers. The crash occurred shortly after 6pm at mile marker 76 which is in the Egan area.

According to a report via our news partners at KATC TV 3, one of the large trucks that was traveling westbound left its lane and crossed the median. This out control vehicle struck an eastbound 18 wheeler head on. At least one occupant of each vehicle died in the fiery crash.

Westbound lanes of the interstate were open shortly before 10pm but now traffic is being allowed through in both lanes of travel. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation by authorities. The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
