Captain Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office along with Julio Nadin joined "Mornings With Ken and Bernie" today to talk about their new public awareness campaign, called "Love It, Lock It".

Judice tells KPEL the concept is simple.  If you love your possessions, then lock your car doors and the doors to your home.

Judice says their office routinely has to deal with thefts from automobiles simply because owners fail to or just choose not to lock their car doors.

Nadin says,

"The Sheriff’s Office is launching a public awareness campaign in response to a high number of recent auto burglaries in the parish. Thieves are targeting unlocked cards and taking whatever is inside."

It seems pretty simple, lock the doors to any area you wouldn't want a thief to get into, but as Judice points out sometimes people forget to do it, think their neighborhood is safe or just don't think they will be a victim of a crime, and then it's too late often to retrieve their stolen property.
