A single-vehicle accident  that killed one Lake Arthur man and landed another in jail is being attributed to alcohol impairment and excessive speed.

According to our news partner KATC, Louisiana State Police Troop D is still investigating the crash that occurred just after midnight Saturday on Broadmore Road.

The initial investigation revealed 29-year-old Robert Leleux was driving a pickup truck northbound on Broadmore Road when he lost control of the vehicle. He then overcorrected causing the vehicle to flip.

One passenger. 26-year-old Brandon Whitlow, was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger received minor injuries.

Leleux, who received moderate injuries, was treated at a local hospital then booked into the Jeff Davis Parish Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, DWI, careless operation, and failure to wear a seat belt.
