Acadiana is still finding ways to honor UL student Mickey Shunick four years after she was murdered by Brandon Scott LaVergne while riding her bike near downtown Lafayette.

The inaugural Mickey Shunick Memorial Bike Ride is scheduled for July 7 on the newly formed Mickey's Loop in Lafayette. The riders will leave at 5:45 pm from Rotary Point, and end back up at the same place, then head to Corner Bar on Johnston Street. The date was chosen because it is the first anniversary of the resolution by Lafayette City - Parish Council to establish the bike loop in Mickey's honor. No pre registration is necessary to ride, you can just show up.

The ride is being organized by Forward Lafayette, who are working to make sure the bike lanes around the city thrive, and are available for everyone to enjoy.
