This is a season of strange happenings at Acadiana's Evangeline Downs Racetrack. Last weekend the track had its first ever triple dead heat. Last night it was another unusual occurrence. A longshot paying out over $100 on a two dollar wager.

Longshot winners are not unusual at Evangeline Downs but long shots of this magnitude are rare at any race track. It happened in the very first race of the live racing card. A field of 3, 4 and 5 year old horses were set to run 7 furlongs. The winner was the longest shot on the board. My Flit N Flot was first under the wire, the payout on a two dollar wager, $166.60 for the win, $51.60 for the place and $18.40 for the post.

What makes this even more interesting is if you had My Flit N Flot in an exacta with the second place runner Sensational Star, you'd have pocketed $799.20 on your two dollar wager. The Superfecta a combination of the 1,9,5 and 3 horses paid $33,475.00. That's a might hefty payout for a minimum bet.

Live racing continues tonight at the Opelousas track. The first post time for racing fans is 5:40pm.
