If you are like me, you find it quite difficult to start your day without that hot and delicious cup of java. I have been told that I am not so nice in the mornings before I have my coffee (not all that hard to believe actually). However, studies have shown that we are doing this process all wrong. Wait, what?!

Let me begin by giving you an important definition. Cortisol

: it is produced by the adrenal glands and mimics the actions of cortisone; it is your stress hormone. When your body's level of cortisol is higher, caffeine is less effective.Studies show that these levels peak around 8am or 9am. That means this is a bad time for your first cup of joe.

It is recommended that you wait about an hour after you wake up before drinking your first cup of coffee. Want to know what I say? If I am expected to be seen in public and communicate nicely with others, coffee right when I wake up is essential. The good news is that if you proceed to follow your normal schedule, it won't harm you at all.

If all of this information makes your brain feel like goo, watch this video and get a little bit of a better explanation.
