Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says an officer was involved in a shooting in Jeanerette last night around 11:30.

Iberia officials say a Jeanerette Police officer was involved in a fight with a suspect.

Police say the Jeanerette officer was stabbed by the suspect Lance Dauphine, and the officer shot the suspect.

Deputies say police were called out to the 400 block of Bert Street because some called in about a suspicious person.  Dauphine fled just before police showed up on the scene.

Both the police officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital where they were treated for their injuries. The suspect was booked into jail on two counts of attempted first degree murder of a police officer.

Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Investigations are still working to get all the details of what happened.

Sheriff's Office Spokesman Ryan Turner says the shooting happened at 291 Martin Luther King Drive
