The Jindal administration reports preliminary findings that indicate there's just over $163 million left over in the budget from last year.

The governor says the budget surplus is due to the fiscal responsibility and growing private sector economy. “We have a budget surplus because we have passed responsible budgets that don’t spend more money than we take in and because Louisiana’s private sector economy is growing," says Gov. Jindal. "We have more jobs in Louisiana than at any point in our history."

The governor and lawmakers will decide what to do with the extra money during the 2014 legislative session. “We will work with the Legislature to use this surplus in a fiscally responsible way so we can continue to create jobs and produce more surpluses," says Gov. Jindal.
