How anybody was able to use Louisiana taxpayer's money in a tattoo parlor or nail salon to begin with is really absurd. Obviously the law in Louisiana was written in such a way that those who don't really need government assistance were able to work the system to get fresh ink, new nails, edible underwear and fashion jewelry all on our dime. Thank God the hired hands in Baton Rouge finally woke up and smelled the nail polish.

Just yesterday the House Health and Welfare Committee passed on legislation that would make it against the law for Louisiana welfare recipients to use their government benefits for anything other than they were intended for, namely food and the basic needs for their family.

This means that welfare recipients will no longer be able to use your money and my money at the following places, cruise ships, psychics, adult-entertainment businesses, nightclubs, bars, video arcades, bail bond companies, and any businesses where minors are not allowed. Darn the luck! What will our non-working able bodied poor get to do for fun?

Maybe I am wrong but it seems to me if you can go on a cruise, you can work. If you can hang at the strip club, you can work. If you can play video games or video poker and you can find a way to get arrested and need bail, then you can work.

Here is the kicker, there is absolutely no way to track violators. That's the debit cards that are issued with the state's benefits can be used to get cash at an ATM machine. That is probably a loophole that needs to be closed don't you think?

I don't know whether to be happy that this legislation is passing or sad that we had to pass this legislation to being with.  Regardless the law will move on to the full house for consideration later in the session.
