Lafayette Family Loses Everything In Sunday Afternoon Fire

A home on Belle Plaine Avenue went up in flames Sunday, while a family was out shopping.

PIO Alton Trahan with the Lafayette Fire Department says David Cabral and his children had left to go shopping, when neighbors called him to let him know that his house was on fire. The fire destroyed the home and caused minor damage to the houses on each side of it. The family's two dogs, who were inside the home, died as well.

Lafayette fire investigators say it appears the fire originated in the kitchen area. The cause is still being investigated.
