Lafayette Mother Charged With Child Desertion After Child Found Two Blocks From Home

A Lafayette woman is charged with child desertion after police say her three-year-old child left its home and walked two blocks down West Congress Street.

Police received the call Tuesday morning around 10:35 after after a local resident found the child at his front door..

According to investigators, Chelsea Jones was asleep inside her residence when the child left the house. Jones is still in jail on $2,500 bond.
