UPDATE 5:15 p.m. Police arrested today the woman who hid 23-year-old Chase Chaisson in her apartment Thursday night before he exchanged gunfire with a Lafayette police officer.

Twenty-one-year-old Patricka Ledet is charged with obstruction of justice and principal to attempted first-degree murder charges, and she remains in jail on a $52,500 bond.

Both the officer and Chaisson are in stable condition at a local hospital. Chaisson — who was initially wanted in connection with a Wednesday shooting — will be taken into police custody once he’s released.

ORIGINAL 4:47 a.m. Lafayette Police, trying to locate a suspect believed to be involved in a Wednesday night shooting, went to an apartment complex on West Willow Street last night to search for the person.

Officers were given persmission to search an apartment where the suspect was believed to be hiding, and the officer found the suspect hiding in a closet.

Police say gunfire was exchanged between the officer and suspect, and both of them were shot.

The officer moved to safety while police say the suspect jumped out the window.  The officer was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

A short time later Lafayette Police found out the suspect had gone to the truck stop on University and was trying to get a ride.

Officers then saw a truck leaving the parking lot without lights and someone trying to hide in the passenger seat.

Lafayette Police tried to stop the truck; the driver refused to stop.

The truck was finally stopped on the westbound side of Interstate Ten in Acadia Parish around mile marker 80 with the help of their Sheriff's Office, Crowley police, Louisiana State Police and the Lafayette Sheriff's Office.

The 23-year-old suspect was taken into custody and then taken to a hospital.  The driver of the truck was detained and questioned by Lafayette Police.

The shootings are being investigated by the Lafayette Police Department's Officer Involved Shooting Team.

The officer involved in the shooting has worked for the Lafayette Police Department for 3 and 1/2 years.

More information on the suspect will be released when he is formally charged according to police.

Chase Chaisson was released from hospital today (09/19/14) and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility.
