LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- Police are investigating a bank robbery at the Whitney Bank on the corner of Arnould Blvd. and Johnston Street.

The suspect walked into the bank at about noon today and demanded money at gunpoint, according to Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton.

The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, Mouton said, but he dropped his handgun before leaving the scene.

Mouton said the suspect is believed to be driving the white Mazda Tribute that was involved in Tuesday's carjacking. Witnesses told police they saw the suspect get into a car matching that description, Mouton said.

No one in the bank was injured, Mouton said.

A KPEL listener said crime scene tape was roping off several areas in the bank's parking lot, and a sign at the bank indicated it was closed due to an emergency.
