LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) — It hasn’t exactly been a great couple weeks for Dan Cathy. The Chick-fil-A CEO has been caught in a firestorm of criticism after he revealed in an interview that he is a firm believer in “traditional marriage.”

Across the country, supporters of gay marriage have opted to boycott the popular fast food eatery. Here in Lafayette, students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette have started an online petition, asking officials to remove the restaurant from its campus.

But on a day designated as “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day,” hundreds, if not thousands, of people here in Lafayette have converged on the restaurants, showing their support through their wallets.
