A pot left on in a home in the 900 block of Madeline Avenue leads to heavy fire damage inside.

Spokesman Alton Trahan with the Lafayette Fire Department says it happened around 4:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon. He says the occupants were home when the fire started and had left the kitchen while they were cooking. The grease in the pot ignited and spread to the cabinets.

The fire, which was put out in about 15 minutes, was ruled an accident.
