Acadiana has been caught in a typical Summer weather pattern the past several days. Actually we've been caught in a dryer than typical Summer weather pattern. A persistent high pressure system has kept the temperatures up and the rain chances down.  That is about to change this week.

The high pressure system responsible for the lack of afternoon showers and thunderstorms will slide off to the east. This will allow the flow of warm moist air from the  Gulf of Mexico to return to the area. This will mean  increased cloud cover and slightly cooler temperatures. It will also result in a better chance of rain and thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Dave Baker's forecast for today calls for partly cloudy skies and a 30% chance of rain. The chances for rain will be at 30% or higher for much of the week with Wednesday looking as if it will hold the best chance for afternoon rains across the area.
