A friend of mine always calls things like heat index and wind chill "weather drama". He says it's just to make the weather forecast more interesting when it's basically the same forecast day after day. He is probably right. It is the same forecast day after day but the heat index can be a health issue if you're not careful.

Dave Baker, the great guru of weather guessing at KATC TV 3, says today we can expect the heat index  or feels like temperature to be above 100 degrees from about Noon until 4pm. That means people who are going to be outside for extended periods of time need to take precautions and use caution to make sure they don't succumb to the heat.

There is a 30% chance of an afternoon shower today, that could keep the heat index and the afternoon high temperature down if the shower passes your area at the right time of the day. Otherwise the passing shower will just add more humidity to the air and make it even more stifling to be outside.
