The threat of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm will be present for most of Acadiana through the Memorial Day Holiday. An abundance of warm moist air combined with instability generated by a sagging weak frontal boundary will give the area a better than average chance of showers or thunderstorms today and tomorrow.

It won't be a total washout as the early part of the day will feature some sunshine. It's the daytime heating combined with the humidity and the instability in the atmosphere that will create the energy and lift needed to fire up thunderstorms later today.

The Storm Prediction Center does not forecast a severe weather outbreak for the region although their forecast models suggest that some of thunderstorms that develop in and around Acadiana could be quite heavy at times.

For those planning a picnic or Memorial Day remembrance ceremony on Monday be advised the threat of showers and thunderstorms is expected to increase by that time. The current long range forecast from Dave Baker has the potential for rainfall for the Monday holiday listed at 50%. This is subject to change as the forecast is fine tuned over the weekend.

Our suggestion is try to schedule the outside activities for Saturday and Sunday and leave Monday flexible for a quick change in plans if necessary.
