If you're planning on attending the sold out Miranda Lambert concert on Friday night at Lafayette's Cajundome or any high school football game in the area you might want to include an umbrella in your evening's wardrobe.

The current forecast from Dave Baker at KATC TV 3 is showing a significant chance of showers and thunderstorms late Friday afternoon into Friday night. The payoff from these showers and thunderstorms could be slightly cooler weather for the remainder of the weekend and early next week.

All of this shower activity and cooler weather is expected to be the result of an upper level trough of low pressure interacting with an approaching cold front. If you include the daytime heating you can count on a pretty good chance of rain in the area to start the weekend.

Rainfall totals are not expected to be abundantly huge over the forecast period. Right now the best guess is that most areas will receive about an inch of rainfall, isolated areas maybe two inches. The threat for severe weather is not expected to be that great over the area either.

Conditions should improve by late Saturday and Sunday with the early part of next week still holding a small chance of rain but temperatures only topping out in the mid to low 80's.
