Rain will be likely in the Lafayette area by this evening with a chance of thunderstorms developing into tomorrow. A storm system moving across the Great Plains will be the catalyst for showers and even a heavy thunderstorm in the area by late this afternoon.

Precipitation forecast indicate the heaviest rainfall totals are expected to fall to the south and east of Lafayette. Vermilion, Iberia and St. Mary Parishes could see a total of 2 inches of rain before the shower activity comes to an end late Thursday. Most of Acadiana should receive over an inch of rain as the system moves through and out of the area.

Here is what Dave Baker at KATC TV 3 has to say about your forecast.

On the backside of the system, much cooler weather is forecast. Concert goers who have plans to attend Thursday night's Kenny Chesney show in the Cajundome will want to wear more than shorts and sandals. Temperatures will be in the 50's by concert time with a gusty northerly  wind adding and extra chill to the walk from the car to the Cajundome.
