An approaching cold front will slide into South Louisiana later this morning and then come to a screeching halt. The instability created by this storm system will be the catalyst for what could be a very wet start to Acadiana's weekend plans.

Forecasters believe the best chance for heavy showers and or possibly severe thunderstorms will be midday Friday into Friday afternoon. The potential for severe weather will be greatly enhanced if we get some breaks in the clouds during the morning. This would allow for warmer temperatures in the area and that could mean a stronger dynamic for possible severe weather.

The Storm Prediction Center forecast does not call for severe weather in the area. However should the right climate conditions come together that chance will be elevated. The greatest threat from this particular storm system could come in the form of heavy rain. Forecasters believe parts of Acadiana could see as much as 4 inches of rain over the weekend.

The best chance for rain according to Dave Baker in the Storm Team 3 Weather Lab will be this afternoon and evening and during the early part of the day on Saturday. Sunday will see another threat of showers building into the area with a good chance of rain Monday to start the work week.
