This is not the way this weekend's weather was supposed to play out. It's the first weekend of college football and tens of thousands of fans were hoping from bright sunshine and warm temperatures.

Instead it will be ponchos and rubber boots for the tailgate tent and a reminder not to wear sandals. Why? When it rains the ants like to come under the tailgate tents where its dry. They also like to nibble and sting on bare toes. So maybe your Delcambre Reeboks might be a good idea for Saturday.

All of this rain is expected to begin streaming into the area later today. The moisture is being pulled from a weak  tropical wave that has settled into the Texas coastline near Brownsville. This disturbance will provide ample moisture in the atmosphere for rain chances to be very high for Friday and even higher on Saturday.

It would not be uncommon for many areas in Acadiana to see anywhere from one inch to three inches of rain. Some of the heavier downpours could put as much as five inches of rain into the coulees and  bayous before it all comes to an end.

Rain chances will diminish slightly on Sunday and should return to the normal, afternoon and early evening chance of showers by Labor Day Monday.
