A strong low pressure system pushing through Texas is expected to bring the possibility of heavy thunderstorms and even severe weather to the Acadiana area today. The system is already producing gusty breezes as it moves to the east.

These southerly winds will interact with the subtropical jet stream in the upper levels of the atmosphere that could cause some wind rotation with height. This diffluence aloft of strong winds could be the catalyst for severe thunderstorms or possible tornadoes.

The Storms Prediction Center has determined the risk of tornadoes and other severe weather to be slight, but still conditions will exist for the explosion of heavy thunderstorms at a moments notice. The current radar scan from the National Weather Service will show you where the heaviest activity is located in relation to where you live.

Dave Baker from KATC TV 3 has the rain chances very high for today. Dave has rain chances still into tonight and tomorrow. The good news is that Saturday might be a great day, the bad news is rain and storms are likely to return by Sunday.
