Travelers heading west toward Texas on Interstate 10 can expect even more delays as they enter the city of Lake Charles. Bridge repairs on the I-10 bridge over the Calcasieu River have affected eastbound travelers for the past several months. Now it's the westbound travelers turn to experience the frustration.

Beginning Tuesday, April 17th at approximately 5 AM the there will be lane closures in from mile marker 33 to mile marker 27. That would be from the U.S. 71 North/LA 14/Cameron exit all the way to the Westlake exit.

The lane closures will affect travelers who might normally use Opelousas Street, Shattuck Street, Enterprise Boulevard, Ryan Street, North Lakeshore Drive, or LA 385 to Downtown Lake Charles.

Motorists are encouraged to detour around the construction site by taking Loop 210 West. This will add just a few minutes to your travel time compared to the reported half an hour to forty-five minutes some motorists reported by staying on I-10.

You should anticipate heavier than normal traffic on Loop 210. The speed limit is also reduced compared to the normal freeway speed and law enforcement officials are monitoring the roadway closely because of the heavier traffic load.
