Lake Charles Man Arrested For Impersonating A Police Officer
A Lake Charles man was booked into the parish jail on multiple charges after pretending to be a police officer when stopped by a Louisiana State Trooper Sunday evening.
On August 3, 2014, at 06:30 p.m., a state trooper observed a vehicle speeding on U.S. Highway 171 north of Lake Charles. After he was stopped the driver, 22-year-old Derek Felice of Lake Charles, claimed to be a police officer for the town of Welsh. He then produced a Welsh Police Department identification card. Investigation of his claim revealed Felice was a former police officer with the Welsh Police Department who was no longer employed there.
Felice was charged with false personation of a peace officer, speeding 69 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone, and expired motor vehicle inspection. He was also issued a notice of violation for failure to provide proof of vehicle insurance.
Felice was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. If convicted, the charge of false personation of a peace officer is punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a fine of $1,000.
